I m looking at two of them now in a room with a 16 foot cathedral ceiling and an arch top window made of four 6 foot casements plus the 4 foot archtop.
10 ceilings with standard height windows and doors pictures.
I try to use 3 0 wide door where possible.
Our exterior doors are 6 8 as well but they have transoms so they look taller.
Ceilings can go beyond the industry standard to 10 and 12 feet high.
Taller doors and windows or drop the ceiling.
Narrow doors look even narrower when they are tall.
Matching the window and door height to the space.
Also consider the width.
We have 10 ceilings and standard doors.
Ten feet of height and a 84 door will make that door appear a mouse hole.
With standard 8 foot walls windows most often match the top of interior doors which are 6 feet 8 inches tall.
12 in living family maybe a study is a nice feature.
Our windows are 6 tall and start about 12 from the ceiling so there is a difference in the height of the tops of doors and windows.
Standard residential door heights are 6 8 and 8 0.
Window replacement is typically determined when designing the exterior of a house with the height set to the standard door height of 6 feet and 8 inches.
Let me see if i can find pics.
It used to be pretty standard.
Ceiling 8 windows 7 3 doors 6 8 the lining up of door and window heights in an otherwise traditionally detailed house seems to me a relatively recent affectation and i think it sometimes puts the windows too low or requires doors that are too tall.
Higher ceilings up to 12 feet are not uncommon especially in renovated loft apartments and pre war style architecture.
Ceiling 10 windows 8 6 9 doors 7 4th floor.
It s a nice feel but adds expense in cabinetry a kitchen to look good.
This leaves a comfortable 16 inch gap between the ceiling and window top.
Our doors are standard height but 36 wide with 4 casings.
My rule of thumb is to use the 8 0 doors when you have tall ceilings or to use transoms with 6 8 doors.
We have 9 foot ceilings.
Most construction right now is 10 down and 9 up as standard in my area.
Even a nine foot ceiling is better with eight foot doors and taller window or an added transom above a standard seven foot height.
With 9 and 10 foot ceilings it s common to use taller windows that fill the space proportionately but beware of added costs if your windows require different.
With a standard 8 foot wall height this placement leaves a margin of 16 inches between the top of the window and the ceiling.
I understand what you re saying about down the road 10 being the 8 of today you could alway hedge and do 11 with 8 doors aesthetically that would look fine and you could bump area mentioned above to 12 to give a little dimension.
