2x6 Bed Frame

This hailey platform bed is inspired by a pottery barn bed that features wood slats for a headboard a wood frame and wood legs all 2x6 boards are used making this a quick project that will cost less than 50.

I though am wanting it to actually sit in the bed frame a little so i may deviate a little as i already have with a few things. Most of that wood was 2x6 boards. This ended up being a heavy but very sturdy bed frame. Two into the 2x4 side of the legs and six into the 2x6 side of the leg.

Rather i used spruce lumber normally used for framing. Each inside corner of the bed frame receives 8 screws to mount the frames to the legs. I measured 1 3 4 inch down from the top of the 2 8 board and put a mark. Line up the long sides of the two frame assemblies.

Add bed frame rail hardware. An old metal bed frame donated its casters to make it easily movable. So the top is completely flush meaning it would sit on and not in. This is because these h shaped frame styles are intended for use with a headboard and footboard.

Repeat these steps to make the other half of the bed frame. This grid of screws creates a lot of conflicting geometry that will prevent racking of the entire bed. The middle cross members get placed at 13 and 27 inches on the frame. 3 4x4x 8 posts 8 2x6x8 boards 2 2x4x8 boards 8 1x4x8 boards 2 1x5x8 boards.

Bed frames typically have metal legs and feet that elevate them up off the floor. The rails attach to these pieces directly to support the mattress. The bed rails each have a 2x2 1 5 x1 5 attached to the bottom inside edge on which the slats supporting the mattress rest. This step by step diy article is about 2 4 queen size bed plans.

Bed rails are similar to frames but they re missing the metal slats at the head and foot of the bed. Next i placed the rail hardware at the mark and close to flush with the end of the board.
